Program:

Day 1 – Arriving at Sofia airport and transfer to  hotel.

Accommodate, dinner  and overnight at hotel.

 

Day 2 – Breakfast at hotel.  Meeting in the lobby for the beginning of the city tour of Sofia.

Sofia is one of the oldest cities in Europe. You will discover the magic of combination of busy modern capital and ancient history. We will start with walking tour around the center of Sofia – the famous “ yellow brick” where is the National Assembly’s building and the Council of Ministers and other historical and emblematic buildings . In this part of town you will see an ancient religious complex, discovering accidently in 2011. Then we will visit the National Historical Museum and Boyana Church. The museum is the biggest in Bulgaria and have an unique collections of treasures  from centuries. Boyana church – situated in the foothills of Vitosha mountain the church is included in the UNESCO list of World Cultural and historical heritage. Its frescoes dating from 1259, are among the most valuable works of medieval art.

Day 3 – Breakfast at hotel.  Check out.

Meeting in the lobby for whole day excursion to “Rilski Manastir” – Rila Monastery.

Rila Monastery  is part of a World Heritage by UNESCO. It is the largest Christian culture center in Bulgaria. It is the best example of Bulgarian medieval and renaissance architecture and fresco. The monastery was founded in the tenth century by St. Ivan Rilski as cloistered community. Situated at 1,100 meters above sea level in the heart of the Rila Mountains, 120 km south of Sofia. Today's restored buildings of the monastery complex dating from the early nineteenth century with unique frescoes in the main church were painted by the famous Bulgarian master artists of the Bulgarian Revival (XVII-XIX centuries). Unique masterpieces are preserved in the monastery museum.

Departure to Plovdiv .

Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria, built on seven hills in the IV century BC This is an open-air museum, where the culture of the ancient Thracians, Greeks and Romans mixed with the Christian culture of the Middle Ages. In the old town you can see the remains of the stadium and the amphitheater from the time of Philip II, ancient mosaics, columns, old cobbled streets, houses, churches, museums and galleries.

Day 4 -  Breakfast at hotel. Meeting in lobby for  city tour of old Plovdiv;

In the afternoon -  excursion to Bachkovski manastir” – Bachkovski Monastery

 “ Bachkovski manastir” – Bachkovski Monastery – the second largest monastery complex after Rila Monatrey in Bulgaria. It’s slopes of the Rhodopes mountain. It was founded in the XI century and has valuable icons, manuscripts, engravings from the Middle Ages. In the monastery church of Bachkovo keep miraculous icon of the Virgin of Tenderness, a copy of which was given to Pope John Paul II during his visit to Bulgaria.

Back to hotel  in Plovdiv, dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 5 – Breakfast at hotel.Excursion to "Asenova Krepost"' In the afternoon - free time in Plovdiv; 

Excursion to “Asenova Krepost – Petrich”  - Fortress or Petrich

You will visit Fortress or Petrich is a medieval fortress, which is located in the Rhodope Mountains and is 2 km away from the town Asenovgrad. Fortress has existed since the time of the Thracians, and was rebuilt in the IX century to guard the door of the White sea passage to ensure the Byzantine frontier in this region. The first written evidence of the castle is from the XI century and is from the Statute of Bachkovski  Monastery. From this information it appears that the fortress has possessed its own army and administration. It was conquered by the Crusaders during the Fourth Crusade. Fort existed until 1410, was destroyed by the invading Ottoman forces.

Back to Plovdiv. Free time to walk by yourself in the city to discover the old town, to buy souvenirs.

Day 6 -  Breakfast at hotel. Check out and departure to Sofia for your flight back to home
